“The Flame Tree” is a standalone, free verse poem. The inspiration for the piece came from my love for the brilliant flame tree with its bright orange foliage and my curiosity of its origins. The speaker in “The Flame Tree” finds a sense of belonging just as the flame tree has on the beautiful island of Guam.

The piece accompanies other works produced by and for Asian-identifying Portlanders in Significant Beings. Entries were edited by Gaby Tirta.
